Enhanced Surveillance for Public and Officer Safety

Enhanced surveillance incorporates any technology that extends the users' sensing abilities. Enhanced surveillance systems can protect the public by alerting law enforcement to suspicious behaviors. Through enhanced surveillance criminal justice agencies can:

  • Continuously monitor spaces for suspicious behavior or movement by individuals and groups of people.
  • Track personnel in the field and provide them with information on hidden threats in the environment.
  • Monitor the health status of prison inmates, especially those at risk for suicide.
  • Protects law enforcement officers by allowing them to assess the environment from a safe distance before entering a dangerous situation.

Enhanced surveillance technologies encompass intelligent software for video systems; devices that see through walls; tactical cameras that can be thrown, rolled, dropped or lowered; and devices that monitor an individual's vital signs.
