Astronauts get total force support
An HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter from Air Force Reserve Command's 920th Rescue Wing receives an in-flight refueling from a Marine Corps C-130 aircraft. Air Force reservists from the Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., unit provide astronaut emergency rescue and public safety support for all manned space shuttles lifting off from Kennedy Space Center. The total force refueling operation took place after the rescuers cleared a 60-mile stretch of the Atlantic Ocean of ships and boats, if they came too close to the launch hazard area. 920th folds its wings for Afghanistan mobilization
CAPE CANAVERAL AIR FORCE STATION, Fla., -- Air Force Reservists from the 920th Rescue Wing at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., prepare two HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters by folding various moving parts for transport onto a C-5 Galaxy aircraft. The C-5 airlifted the helos to the southern Arizona desert where helicopter aircrews and maintenance personnel trained July 12-25 for the toughest flying conditions in the world - Afghanistan. NASA Emergency Exercise
The 920th Rescue Wing out of Patrick Air Foce Base, Fla. was a big player during a Mode 7 Exercise at Cape Canaveral February 13. The Air Force Reserve rescue crews airlifted Air Force Reserve pararescuemen from the wing's 308th Rescue Squadron as well as NASA emergency firefighters to a remote location on the Cape where the exercise took place. It allowed rescue workers to training in space shuttle egress in the event of a space shuttle Mode 7 emergency.
