Mission

To help the U.S. photovoltaic industry maintain a competitive position, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) created the National Center for Photovoltaics (NCPV), which is part of the DOE Solar Energy Technologies Program.

When the NCPV was created in 1996, it drew on the core expertise of the following organizations:

Today, the NCPV activities support the DOE SunShot Initiative. The goal is to make large-scale solar energy systems cost-competitive with other energy sources by 2020.
