    U.S. Embassy Nassau Announces New Visa Services Procedures Beginning in March

    The U.S. Embassy in Nassau will be transitioning to a new web-based visa appointment system on March 11, 2013, that will affect all nonimmigrant visa applicants throughout the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. There will be no fee increase as a result of these changes. However, as of March 7, scratch cards and PIN numbers currently required to make a visa appointment will be phased out and will no longer be valid.

    On Friday, February 1, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires John Dinkelman announced the five recipients of the 2012 President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Small Grants Program during a ceremony following a one-hour roundtable discussion held at the U.S. Embassy.

    U.S. and The Bahamas Support Launch of Energy Efficiency Project in The Bahamas

    CHENACT was officially launched in Nassau on February 7. CHENACT is an energy efficiency project to improve the competitiveness of small and medium sized hotels in the Caribbean region through improved use of energy, with the emphasis on renewable Energy and micro-generation. The initiative is a partnership between The Bahamas’ Ministry of Tourism, the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association and IDB with the support of the U.S. Department of Energy.

    Bahamian Students Headed to the U.S. as U.S. Embassy Youth Ambassadors

    On January 23, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, John Dinkelman met with four students who are headed to Denver Colorado and Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Embassy’s first Youth Ambassadors exchange program. Through a partnership with The Bahamas Red Cross, the students who demonstrated commitment to community service were selected to join youth leaders from throughout the Caribbean for three weeks of hands-on community-based activities designed to develop their conflict resolution and leadership skills.

    The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the seventh annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Civil Rights Contest. This year’s theme “Dream Inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.: Celebrating Forty Years of Bahamian Independence” will also include an art component in partnership with Antonius Roberts to encourage high school students in government and private schools to express themselves artistically.

New Visa Services Procedures

    The U.S. Embassy will be transitioning to a new web-based visa appointment system on March 11, 2013, that will affect all nonimmigrant visa applicants throughout The Bahamas and TCI.  There will be no fee increase as a result of these changes.  As of March 7, scratch cards and PIN numbers currently required to make a visa appointment will be phased out and will no longer be valid.  The U.S. Embassy strongly advises all visa applicants who have purchased a scratch card but have not scheduled an appointment, to use it to schedule an appointment before the card expires on March 7, 2013.

    Visa applicants who plan to apply for a visa on March 11, 2013 or after should wait to use the new web-based system. Specific details on the new web-based U.S. visa application and payment system will be announced prior to the official launch on March 11, 2013.
