Guide to Equipment Guarding
This Guide (OT 3) is provided to assist the mining community with designing, installing and maintaining equipment guards to prevent miners from contacting hazardous moving machine parts. Contact with machine parts may result in serious accidents or death. Proper equipment guarding is essential to reduce this risk of injury. Revised 2004.
Two relevant DVD's are available. "Equipment Guarding" (a 2-DVD set) and "Junkyard Guards". These are available from MSHA's National Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beckley, W.Va., at 304-256-3257.

Hazcom Writer
NIOSH's Hazcom Writer provides individuals responsible for writing a MSHA HazCom written program with software to aid in writing their HazCom program and for identifying hazardous chemicals on site. MSHA's HazCom rule (30 CFR Part 47) requires all mines to determine which chemicals are hazardous, write a Hazard Communication Program, label all containers containing hazardous chemicals, keep MSDS's for all hazardous chemicals, provide HazCom training to employees, and to make the HazCom information available to employees.
