Photos from Open HouseThe MBDA Federal Procurement Center is located in the Nation's Capital to provide access to federal procurement officials and prime contractors throughout the region. The Center serves minority-owned firms with annual revenues of more than $1 million. The Center is a part of MBDA's nationwide services network.  

It is the first MBDA Business Center to solely focus on federal contracting. Center representatives closely align with clients to understand their capabilities and unique offerings to the federal government, and assist them in developing customized near-term and long-term marketing strategies.  The Center’s personnel maintain strong federal agency knowledge, relationships and contracting experience.

The Center is operated by the Metropolitan Economic Development Association of Minneapolis, MN.

Specific Services

  • Facilitate relationships between minority business clients, and federal program managers and acquisition professionals

Staff Information

Joe Grabenstein is the Executive Director of the MBDA Federal Procurement Center, the only MBDA center that is solely focused on federal government contracting. As a proven business developer with over 15 years of experience, he brings a history of uncovering new opportunities within federal agencies, building winning teams, and capturing federal opportunities. As an integral part of management teams, he has implemented strategies for explosive revenue growth and helped secure contracts valued at over $1 billion dollars for small and minority-owned businesses.

Joe also has an extensive network of federal and corporate relationships which are maintained through regular attendance of industry events, and the use of social media. His extensive knowledge of obtaining and managing of all types of Federal contracts including: IDIQ, Firm-Fixed Price, Cost Plus Fixed-Fee, Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC), Single Award, GWAC, GSA Schedule, Contractor Teaming Arrangement (CTA), among others, will help the center meet the needs of growing minority owned businesses as they compete for federal contracts. Joe is originally from the DC area, attended the University of Maryland, and now resides in Northern Virginia.
