Senior Chief Musician Max Fryar is with the U.S. Naval Forces Europe - Africa Band which performed in Accra, Ghana as part of a two-week, three-country engagement. The performances, supporting the Africa Partnership Station, feature the NAVEUR-NAVAF Band and local musicians.
Today, November 4, 2010, was our last full day in Ghana and a bit of a relaxing day for the band. Most of band has experience some stomach problems, so it was nice to spend part of the day resting. Our only engagement for today was a rock band show for the Canadian High Commission. Word got out in the diplomatic community that we were going to be there, so the venue was packed--the Canadians had a record turnout for their International Night! We performed a set of smooth jazz with a local band and then proceeded to rock out. The audience's enthusiasm really inspired the band and the show was a pleasure to be part of. Everyone enjoyed the music so much that they asked us to stay a few more days and play at the U.S. Marine Corps Birthday Ball.
