Week of May 3, 2010

On June 23, 2009, Campbell (OH) Police Department responded to a non-fatal shooting where the victim had been shot on a public sidewalk sustaining eight gunshot wounds to the chest and head. On September 18, 2009, Youngstown (OH) Police Department responded to a shooting where the suspect chased the victim on foot up and fired up at the victim up to the victim’s residential driveway. Officers arrested the suspected shooter. Using NIBIN, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification - Northeast Laboratory was able to match the firearm to both shootings. On December 15, 2009, the defendant was convicted of Attempted Murder with a Firearm Specification and was sentenced to a period of ten years and three years imprisonment, to be served consecutively.

Week of May 10, 2010

On December 13, 2008, Columbus (OH) Division of Police responded to a drive-by shooting where the shooter had fired at a passing vehicle striking one of the occupants twice in the back. On March 2, 2009, Columbus Division of Police responded to a home invasion in an apartment complex, arrested one suspect, and recovered a 9mm pistol. Using NIBIN, Columbus Division of Police’s Crime Laboratory was able to match the firearm to the shooting incident. On June 30, 2009, the defendant pled guilty to burglary and improper handling-of a firearm and was sentenced to three years imprisonment.

Week of May 17, 2010

On April 28, 2009, Youngstown (OH) Police Department responded to a report of suspects exchanging gunfire in the street. On July 29, 2009, Youngstown (OH) Police Department stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The two occupants exited the vehicle, drew handguns, and fled. The officers pursued, recovered one pistol, and arrested both suspects for unlawful possession of firearms. Using NIBIN, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification - Northeast Laboratory was able to match the pistol to the gunfire exchange shooting incident. On October 19, 2009, the defendant pled guilty to unlawful firearms possession and was sentenced to one year imprisonment.
