USS BATAAN (LHD 5), at sea — Navy Quartermaster Seaman Jeffrey Gilbertson stands watch taking visual bearings as the multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan enters Palermo, Sicily. The ship left her homeport of Norfolk, Va. in early January on a regularly-scheduled deployment as the flagship of the Bataan Expeditionary Strike Group and is currently operating in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility contributing to improving maritime security and safety.
