Advanced Courses

Advanced courses are primarily designed to enhance and continue the education of CHDS Fellows (graduates). Six of the advanced courses are accredited through a component of the National Defense University. Candidate requirements include:

  1. The advanced courses are primarily designed for CHDS foundational course graduates and/or graduates of other advanced courses. Non-CHDS graduates will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  2. CHDS graduates must wait one full calendar year to apply to an advanced course. For example, if you graduated from a three-week course at CHDS that started in October, you may apply to an advanced course, if offered, in October of the following year or later. If you graduate from an advanced course you may not apply to the Strategy and Defense Policy course (SDP).
  3. Advanced courses are currently available in Spanish and English. For the courses offered in Spanish, participants must possess English reading skills consistent with university graduate-level books and publications. Check the CHDS website for course specifics and availability in your desired language. Please click here to view a sample reading of the English level required.
  4. Military and civilian applicants will use the same application form. Military candidates should submit their applications to the Security Cooperation Office within the US Embassy, with a copy sent to CHDS. All candidates may send their applications directly to CHDS at chdsregistrar@ndu.edu
