About Us
Waste Shipment Approval

After the waste stream approval is granted, the customer requests shipment of a specific set of waste containers. The customer submits the following data concerning the waste containers to the Waste Management Representative. The data required for approval of a shipment is as follows:

  • A Container Data Sheet for each container. Download electronic forms for the Container Data Sheet.

(Note: Project Hanford Managment Contract waste customers can enter data directly into the Solid Waste Information Tracking System [SWITS] database in lieu of completing a Container Data Sheet.)

  • A Contents Inventory Sheet that identifies the materials placed in the waste container. The Contents Inventory Sheet can be in any reasonable format used by a customer. It must, however, contain the following information: the container’s unique identification number, waste generating facility or location, the specific contents of the container, and the approximate weight of waste added to the container.

  • For waste that is or has been subject to the federal Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR) of 40 CFR 268, a Land Disposal Restrictions Notification/Certification Form is completed.

Note: The Land Disposal Restrictions Notification/Certification Form may be completed for a Waste Profile or for each Waste Container.
TRU Waste does not require a Land Disposal Restriction Notification/Certification Form.

(Note: Hanford Site users can print LDR forms from the SWITS database. Electronic LDR forms are available on the Tools page.)

If the customer makes any changes to the shipment data after the forms are submitted, the customer must contact their Waste Management Representative and resubmit any shipment data that have changed. It should be noted that changes to paperwork could cause delays because of additional reviews.

Shipment data are reviewed against the Waste Profile Sheet, the applicable Waste Specification Records (WSRd) and the Hanford Site Solid Waste Acceptance Criteria. On approval of the shipment, the Waste Management Representative will contact the customer to schedule the shipment. The Waste Management Representative will send a Receipt Report for each approved shipment. Waste shipments must be accompanied by the following paperwork:

  • A Receipt Report for each shipment approval
  • A Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest (mixed waste only)
  • A Land Disposal Restriction Notification/Certification Form (waste subject to 40 CFR 268 only).
