House Republican Leader John Boehner keeps asking: “where are the jobs?” Well, 79,000 of the jobs funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act he tried to stop are in OHIO.
In fact, Boehner seems to have forgotten the mess that the Bush Administration's failed economic policies — which he supported — left in his home state of Ohio and across the country.
In eight years under President Bush:
278,400 hard-working Ohioans lost jobs. [BLS, 2/01; BLS, 2/09]
Median income for Ohio households dropped $3,400. [JEC, 9/09]
The number of Ohioans without health insurance grew by 118,000. [Census]
Rebuilding Ohio's Economy
Without help from Congressional Republicans, Democrats are taking action to help turn this economy around.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama in February 2009, has made critical investments in Ohio and across the country that are beginning to restore families' economic security. And we will continue to work to create and save good American jobs and invest in American communities even as Republicans continue to stand in the way.
Impact Of The Recovery Act In Ohio
According to the Council of Economic Advisers, the Recovery Act passed by Congress in February 2009 has already funded an estimated 79,000 jobs in Ohio through the end of 2009. [CEA, 1/13/10]
In fact, in some of the counties that make up Mr. Boehner's district — the impact of the Recovery Act on communities, workers and families has been pronounced:
Butler County Sheriff's Office – $386,633.50 for Retention and Hiring of Officers [ARRA Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, FY 2009 Projects]
According to Ohio's Department of Transportation — the following are just some of the highway and road construction projects that have been funded by the Recovery Act: SR 503 Resurfacing(Darke County), US 36 Pavement Rehabilitation(Darke County), SR 571 Pavement Rehabilitation(Darke County), South Stanfield Road Resurfacing (Miami County), West Stanfield Road Resurfacing(Miami County), North Elm Street Resurfacing(Miami County), SR 732 Resurfacing(Preble County), US 40 Culvert Reconstruction(Preble County).
Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area (serving Darke, Greene, Montgomery, Preble and Warren Counties) – $2,827,922 in Community Services Block Grant Program funds to help combat poverty and help Ohio families get back on their feet. [Ohio Department of Development]
