Users’ Office

The Users’ Office coordinates the issuance of ID badges for site access and computing accounts for computer system access to scientists and professionals.

All Users, regardless of whether they are physically at Fermilab or abroad, must have a Fermilab ID number assigned to them.

Summary of Fermilab Procedures

Computing Privileges Only: If you require only computing privileges and will not visit Fermilab, go to the Computing Division’s directions for obtaining Off-site User privileges (off-site computing privileges). This process will include the issuance of a Visitor ID number to you. On-Site Access: If your primary concern is enabling on-site access to Fermilab, either immediately or in the near future:
  1. You still must go first to the Computing Division’s directions for obtaining Off-site User privileges (off-site computing privileges). The procedure focuses on getting you authorized to use computing resources; your VID number is generated behind-the-scenes as part of the process.
  2. Once you have your Visitor ID number, go to Fermi Badges. This will guide you through the preliminary steps you can complete before arriving at Fermilab, which will make the Badge issuance very brief, once you arrive here.
Renewing Computing Privileges Only: Go to the Computing Division's discussion on Accounts and Password and scroll down to Renewing Accounts. Renewing your Fermilab Visitor ID Badge: Go to the Users’ Office discussion on Fermi Badges and scroll down to the discussion on Renewal of Fermilab ID Badge.

If you have questions relating to U.S. immigration, please contact the Visa Office.
