Specialist in Blood Banking Fellowship

Across the nation and around the globe, the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) supplies blood and blood products to military personnel and their families. In order to meet military hospital and combat needs, the military requires qualified personnel to preserve a safe and secure blood supply for our military community.

The United States military offers a Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) Fellowship program as a unique opportunity for those interested in a career in blood services. The SBB Fellowship trains medical technologists from all three branches of the Armed Services (Army, Navy, and Air Force) to become specialists in blood banking.

In the past, the Fellowship Program has also welcomed several international students from our NATO allies. While there is no set criteria for the acceptance of international students to the Fellowship Program, each student is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, ensuring that the most qualified applicants are admitted into the program.

This challenging program prepares officers to effectively apply universal blood banking skills in a variety of settings, enabling graduates to perform all blood bank operations—from routine testing to the most advanced procedures.

The SBB Fellowship program enhances blood banking career opportunities and provides knowledge that will allow participants to excel in the military medical arena. However, ensuring troops have the safest blood components possible whenever and wherever needed may be the best part of the program.
