From her very first month as chairman of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, she has demonstrated that she was going to be an advocate for the consumer. The first few days of her tenure included a national press conference on firework safety and network interviews on recalled cribs, pool safety, and the dangers of certain off road vehicles. Our special guest today made it clear that she was going to be a mainstay in the media and put the US consumer Product Safety Commission in a position of prominence. She has also insured that consumers and industry would have increased access to the commission through public meetings, workshops, and social media. A two time superintendent of education in South Carolina, the well being and safety of children is her life’s work. Coming from state government she has shown a commitment to strengthening the ties between the commission and state regulatory partners. During her tenure she has also proved be an important and supportive friend of ICPHSO.
