COMMISSION MEETINGS

No Commission Executive Sessions or Open Meetings were scheduled this week.

ENFORCEMENT

The Commission made public three closed cases and one Statement of Reasons. For more information, see the case documents in the Enforcement Query System.

MUR 6101 – Heller for Congress and Elisabeth Ballinger, in her official capacity as treasurer; November Inc. (d/b/a November Inc., Autumn Productions, and NI Operations); and Foundations, Inc. (n/k/a IN Compliance Inc.). The Commission decided to take no further action. A Statement of Reasons was issued by Commissioner Ellen L. Weintraub.

MUR 6225 – Shurtleff Joint Fund and Lynn Gilbert, in her official capacity as treasurer; Friends for Shurtleff and Lynn Gilbert, in her official capacity as treasurer; PAC for Utah’s Future; Mark L. Shurtleff; and Guidant Strategies. The Commission closed the file.

MUR 6246 – Charles C. Brennan; Dollar Loan Center, LLC; Robert Brennan; Judi Brennan; Bruce Cooey; Carla Cooey; and Porter for Congress and Chrissie Hastie, in her official capacity as treasurer. The Commission found no reason to believe the respondents violated the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended (“the Act”).

LITIGATION

Beam v. FEC (formerly Beam v. Gonzales). A bench trial in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois was held in Chicago on August 25-26. On August 26, the Commission filed a Memorandum in Support of Its Motion for Judgment on Partial Findings Pursuant to Rule 52(c). The Commission asked the Court to dismiss the Plaintiffs’ Right to Financial Privacy Act claim, the only remaining claim in the case.

PUBLIC DISCLOSURE

The Commission made available on its website Audits for the 1986 and 1988 election cycle. The Audits are divided into three categories: Authorized Committees, Unauthorized Committees, and Title 26 Audit Reports.
