Subcommittee Hearing: Breach of Trust: Addressing Misconduct Among TSA Screeners

Subcommittee on Transportation Security
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), Chairman
Invited Witnesses Include:
Mr. John Halinski
Deputy Administrator
Transportation Security Administration
U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Chairman Rogers on the hearing: “Given the importance of securing aviation and other transportation systems from a terrorist attack, it is essential that TSA rebuild its trust and image with the American people. Many Federal agencies struggle with criminal cases against their employees; but TSA, unlike most government agencies, interacts with the general public in a very frequent and personal manner, and its high-profile criminal cases, among other failings, have resulted in major image problems and a growing lack of support for the agency. I look forward to hearing from TSA’s new Deputy Administrator, John Halinski, and providing TSA the opportunity to describe its efforts to more quickly identify and remove employees whose behavior or lack of judgment can further damage TSA’s already troubled image with the traveling public.”

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), Chairman
H.R. 5913, (Mr. McCaul) to create an independent advisory panel to comprehensively assess the management structure and capabilities related to the Department of Homeland Security and make recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the management of the Department. The “DHS Accountability Act of 2012.”
An Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute is expected to be offered by Mr. McCaul.
