Tax Center Grand Opening Combat Spouses Day Urlas army lodging named for fallen soldier

On Feb. 4, 2013 the Tax Centers at Katterbach and Illesheim, Germany had their grand opening ceremony.

Last year tax center professionals filed 2,687 returns between the two offices totaling an estimated $4.9 million in returns and saving over $364,000 in preparation fees, said Col. Jay Voorhees Jr., the commander of the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade.

In the heat of battle, a squad of military spouses team up to accomplish their mission. "shrapnel" is flying everywhere and the enemy is closing in but the members of the squad jump from behind the protective barriers with water balloons in each hand.

This battle was part of a series of intense matches of capture the flag played as part of an entire day dedicated to military spouses. Soldiers from the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade here hosted the 3rd-annual Combat Spouses Day: Operation Better Half Sept. 20 at Franken Kasserne.

The 12th Combat Aviation Brigade honored Chief Warrant Officer 5 John C. Pratt, the brigade’s first senior warrant officer, in a ceremony Friday renaming the headquarters building here for the fallen aviator.

The distinguished visitors for the event included Pratt’s wife Nicola and daughter Emma, Maj. Gen. James C. Boozer, acting Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe and Lord-Mayor Heinrich Forster of Illesheim Germany.
