Guns on Trains Weaken National Security

October 9, 2009 (WASHINGTON) – Today, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) and Ranking Member Peter T. King (R-NY), sent a letter to Appropriations Committee Chairman David R. Obey (D-WI) and Ranking Member John Lewis (R-CA) and Appropriations Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Subcommittee Chairman John W. Olver (D-MA) and Ranking Member Tom Latham (R-IA) expressing opposition to a section in the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations (T-HUD) Act, as approved by the Senate, which undermines rail security by requiring Amtrak to allow passengers to transport firearms on trains (section 157 of H.R. 3288).
