Belcourt Man Sentenced for Possession of Stolen Firearms

Minot, N.D. — U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on June 25, 2012, Terry J. Gourneau Jr., 21 of Belcourt, N.D., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland on a charge of possession of stolen firearms. Gourneau pleaded guilty to the charge on March 20, 2012.

Judge Hovland sentenced Gourneau to two years in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Gourneau was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim's Fund and to pay $3,214.99 in restitution.

In September 2011 Gourneau possessed firearms which Gourneau knew had been stolen. Gourneau sold those firearms to relatives.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Turtle Mountain Agency and the ATF.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell prosecuted the case.
