Baltimore Felon Exiled to 10 Years in Prison for Possessing a Gun and Ammunition
Baltimore, Maryland — U.S. District Judge Benson E. Legg sentenced Robert Sanderlin, age 27, of Baltimore, Maryland, today to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Judge Benson enhanced Sanderlin’s sentence upon finding that he is an armed career criminal based on four previous drug convictions.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III of the Baltimore City Police Department; Acting Special Agent in Charge Debbie D. Bullock of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – Baltimore Field Division; and Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein. According to his plea agreement, on October 28, 2011, upon receiving an emergency call for an armed person, two Baltimore Police officers arrived at the intersection of North and Greenmount Avenues in Baltimore, and noticed four men standing at a bus stop engaged in a heated discussion. One of the men, Sanderlin, fit the description of the armed person. The officers approached Sanderlin and asked to see his hands. Sanderlin put his hands on his head and the officers saw a handgun protruding from Sanderlin’s front pants pocket. The officers handcuffed Sanderlin and removed a .38 caliber Special handgun, loaded with two rounds of Smith and Wesson .38 special caliber cartridges; two rounds of Western .38 special caliber cartridges and two rounds of Remington–Peters .38 special caliber cartridges.
Sanderlin had previously been convicted of a felony and was prohibited from possessing a gun and ammunition.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Baltimore City Police Department and Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in this investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorney Debra L. Dwyer, who prosecuted the case.
