North Liberty Man Sentenced After Federal Conviction for Drug and Firearm Charges
DAVENPORT, IA — On February 22, 2012, James Thomas Richter, age 41, of North Liberty, Iowa was sentenced to 84 months imprisonment by United States District Court Judge Robert W. Pratt, after pleading guilty to manufacturing marijuana and possession of a firearm as a felon, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Richter was also ordered to be placed on four years of supervised release and pay $100 towards the Crime Victims Fund.
On November 29, 2010, law enforcement officers searched a North Liberty residence occupied by James Thomas Richter. Law enforcement officers seized several items, including nineteen (19) growing marijuana plants and various materials used to grow marijuana. Richter later admitted that he was knowingly involved in the manufacture, planting, cultivating, growing and harvesting of marijuana. Richter also admitted that he possessed a firearm and ammunition seized from this same residence. At the time of the search warrant, Richter had a prior conviction for a felony offense.
This case was investigated by the Johnson County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office, the Johnson County, Iowa, Drug Task Force, the Iowa Department of Public Safety–Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
