Jackson Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Gun and Drug Charges
The United States Attorney’s Office announced today that a Jackson, Missouri man pled guilty to gun and drug charges.
GREGORY T. TAYLOR, age 34, pled guilty to one felony count of Possession of Marijuana With the Intent to Distribute, and one felony count of Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime. He appeared before United States District Judge Henry E. Autrey.
On November 4, 2011, federal and local officers executed a search warrant at Taylor’s residence located on Hanover Street in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where they found approximately 14 pounds of marijuana, digital scales, zip lock bags and a .22 caliber handgun. Taylor consented to the search of another apartment he was renting located on West End Blvd. in Jackson, Missouri. During a search of that apartment, authorities found a 9mm caliber pistol.
Taylor admitted that both handguns belonged to him and that the marijuana found in the home was his. Taylor admitted that he was planning to sell the marijuana to other persons. Taylor now faces a maximum punishment of 5 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine for possession of the marijuana. He also faces a punishment of not less than five years to life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. These sentences must run consecutively under federal law. Sentencing has been set for April 17, 2012.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Keith D. Sorrell is handling the prosecution for the Government.
