At the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC), we are fully committed to support the warfighter and we need your help to fulfill our mission requirements. We offer several choices of career paths. Each is tailored to your career development needs. Here are our current opportunities: engineer and scientist positions and Career Intern Program; other government positions; Students for Temporary Hire Program (STEP); Cooperative Education Program; and Summer Hire Program.

  • Engineer and Scientist Journeyman and Career Intern Positions: Open to candidates who are seeking entry-level through journeyman positions, the government offers training and establishes a clear career path while working at TARDEC. Qualified candidates for TARDEC engineering and related science positions must possess a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college or university.   • Students for Temporary Hire Program (STEP): This opportunity is open to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing program credits related to technical work performed by TARDEC teams. To learn more about the STEP Program, please send your resume with the subject "STEP Program" to engineeringresumes@conus.army.mil.
  • Cooperative Education (Co-Op) Program: TARDEC recruits the best and brightest student engineers and scientists that academia has to offer. Successful applicants engage in real-life engineering problems that support current and future missions. Co-Op students’ ideas and expertise are valued by all TARDEC team members. This program offers full tuition support for undergraduate students who have earned 60 credits in a declared engineering or science discipline with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5. Typically, Co-Op students are converted to interns with a one-year paid commitment.   • Summer Hire Program (SHP): High school and college students are exposed to multiple engineering technologies at TARDEC for an 8- to 10-week period. Students are paid to put their skills to work while participating in a leading-edge engineering experience. Students who successfully complete the SHP have an opportunity to convert into a STEP or Co-Op position. If you would like to learn more about our SHP, a call for applications announcement is posted every February at: http://acpol.army.mil/employment. The title of the position is Engineering Aid/Engineering Technician. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, high school (age 16 or older) & college students interested in an Engineering/Science career.
  • Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART): The SMART Defense Education Program is a Scholarship/Fellowship for Service program where academically excellent students that are pursuing degrees in disciplines of particular interest to the Department of Defense (DOD) have all of their educational expenses paid, receive a salary to cover room and board, and generally work at national research laboratories during summer periods. Upon completion of their degrees, students are required to work for the DOD as civilian employees for a period of time related to that period of time covered in the scholarship program.
