Woolsey Works with Community to Complete Emergency Services

SAN RAFAEL, CA -- Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma) and the local community work in partnership to finish the Marin Emergency Radio Authority (MERA) project. “MERA is vital to Marin County,” said Rep. Woolsey. “Its completion will allow all points of the county to be in contact with emergency services. By working as partners, we will achieve the best solution possible.”

The Marin Emergency Radio Authority is made of 26 Marin public agencies, including police and fire. The system is already operational throughout all but the southern region of Marin County. The completion of this final tower would finish the MERA countywide radio system.

A solution to help complete the MERA project involves two antennas -- one on Angel Island and the second on Wolfback Ridge. Rep. Lynn Woolsey has contacted the federal agencies involved and has received commitments from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) that a section of land on Angel Island can be used.

“Although the plan may pose additional costs, it would be a compromise solution that the public demands,” said Rep. Woolsey. “I will work on Capitol Hill to secure additional funds to help offset the expense of the two-antenna project.”
