The Current Population Survey (CPS) is a monthly survey of households conducted by the Bureau of Census for the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides a comprehensive body of data on the labor force, employment, unemployment, persons not in the labor force, hours of work, earnings, and other demographic and labor force characteristics.

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 96,000 in August, and the
unemployment rate edged down to 8.1 percent. Employment increased in
food services and drinking places, professional and technical services,
and health care.

contrast, the employment-population ratio for persons without a
disability was 63.6 percent. The unemployment rate for persons with a
disability was 15.0 percent.

The unemployment rate for veterans of Gulf War era II (September 2001 forward) was
12.1 percent in 2011. Twenty-six percent of Gulf War-era II veterans reported having
a service-connected disability in August 2011, compared with about 14 percent of all
veterans.
