The Black Knights will be wearing the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 1st Armored Division when it takes on Kent State. Headquartered in Fort Bliss, TX, the 1st AD was activated at Fort Knox, ...Ky., on July 15, 1940. It was the first American armored division in U.S. history to see combat. The 1st AD was dubbed “Old Ironsides” in 1941 after the famous U.S.S. Constitution. Maj. Gen. Bruce R. Magruder, the division’s first commander, likened the early development of the tank to the spirit of daring and durability demonstrated by the Navy’s “Old Ironsides” and decided the 1st AD should also have that moniker.See More West Point Parents shared a link.
Following the Cadet Reviews, weather permitting, the West Point Parachute team normally demonstrates their amazing skill, landing on the Plain.
