SGM Wendy Thomson became an honorary member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. The membership, approved by General Robert W. Cone and CSM David M. Bruner, is for demonstrating dedicated leadership and exemplary noncommissioned officer professionalism. SGM Thomson thanked Major McKenzie who officiated at the ceremony and all the many Soldiers she has worked with over the years. In her remarks to the TRADOC Band, who were gathered for the ceremony, she spoke about how dedication means taking time.

“In 26 years of service, my country has never asked me to give of my life or to take the repeated risks that Audie Murphy did on the battlefield, but it has asked me and I have enjoyed every minute giving of my time – to the mission and to my Soldiers. I have always believed that the “devil is in the details.” Detailed planning is what makes something successful, and that kind of detail takes time. People also take time.

I’m proud to be a part of the NCO Corps, working each and every day with you. As an NCO, I know that for every one task there are many implied task that also have to get done. You engage these tasks, and that’s what makes the mission succeed. You take time for each other too, and that’s vitally important.”

The ceremony was also attended by her husband, Retired First Sergeant Jeff Thomson and her two sons, Joseph and Mark.
