ACHP Chairman Wayne Donaldson Celebrates with LA Preserve America Neighborhoods

"Celebrating America's Treasures" kicks off National Historic Preservation Month and Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Los Angeles May 12-13 as ACHP Chairman Wayne Donaldson will speak at a conference celebrating Preserve America Communities. Los Angeles' Cultural Heritage Connections Conference is sponsored by the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles and the city's five Asian Pacific Islander neighborhoods—Little Tokyo, Chinatown, Thai Town, Koreatown, and Historic Filipinotown. All but Filipinotown have been designated Preserve America Neighborhoods and have received a Preserve America Grant which helped fund the comprehensive Asian Pacific Islander Preserve America Neighborhoods Cultural Heritage and Hospitality Education and Training Project, of which this conference is part. Donaldson will address the ACHP's role in supporting cultural heritage tourism and economic development and the federal government's role in the preservation of cultural treasures.

Donaldson also is the California State Historic Preservation Officer. The state boasts 35 Preserve America Communities, from large cities to small towns and vibrant neighborhoods, that encapsulate and illustrate California's rich and diverse cultural heritage.
