Mission

 The J1/8 assists the Commander, US Africa Command in ensuring adequate full-time and reserve manpower as well as funding resources are available for the Command’s mission. In addition, the Directorate leads the Command’s efforts in identifying DoD-wide strategic capability gaps, conducting the annual Command-wide strategic assessment, and orchestrating the Command’s participation in the Department’s Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution System (PPBES). The Directorate also establishes Command-wide policies for personnel, including deployed personnel in the area of responsibility.

A premier team of dedicated professionals demonstrating continuous teamwork and integrity; to strengthen US Africa Command’s mission capability through effective synchronization and efficient implementation of an integrated Command resourcing program:

  • Identify and advocate for current and future resource requirements
  • Maximize opportunities to provide the full range of Human Resource services
  • Conduct comprehensive capabilities-based strategic analysis
  • Manage efficient execution of financial programs
  • Support the well-being of assigned personnel and their families
