AFRICOM Refutes Claims of Meddling in Ethiopian Politics

STUTTGART, Germany,
Aug 21, 2012 — Allegations that General Carter F. Ham, Commander of United States Africa Command, influenced Ethiopian politics in any way are false. The mission of U.S. Africa Command is to work with African nations to strengthen their defense capabilities in order to deter and defeat transnational threats and to provide a security environment conducive to good governance and development. Command leaders and staff members do not meddle in the domestic affairs of African nations.

False allegations against Commander USAFRICOM appear to be in fashion. It is shameful that someone felt the need to assassinate the character of the previous commander — one of the finest men I've ever known — and in the process inflict so much pain and suffering on Joyce, KJ and Kanee. Anyone who knows the Wards, know they don't deserve such dispicable treatment. I've read the IG report. The matters addressed there are utterly trivial, especially so considering that the person who made the allegations had access to the inner workings of the command group — and that's all they could come up with. Whoever you are, shame on you!

Congratulations for calling Ethiopian Review on the carpet. The contributor who stated that the clarification was not warranted is clearly very near sighted. It is exactly those sorts of falsehoods that continue to fly around the internetsphere, and we assume that everyone knows that Ethiopian Review is not credible. Unfortunately, in today's information environment, the lines blur. It is just these sort of clarifications that are needed — nay, required — in these days where the masses really may not see the credibility distinctions among these sorts of sites. While we may view this site with a point of view, others do not. Regardless, calling them out is the right thing to do.

A response from such a credible mission is not warranted to every lie produced by the likes of Ethiopian Review.

Didn't know who what's been said otherwise. Anyway, I like the above statement. And, I don't think the Command is that naive to jeopardize its strategic interest in "meddling" in this kind of delicate situations. If need be, there are other venues
