The Navy is actively developing and participating in energy, environmental and climate change initiatives that will increase use of alternative energy and help conserve the world’s resources for future generations.

Climate Change
In May 2009, the Chief of Naval Operations created Task Force Climate Change to address the naval implications of a changing Arctic and global environment. The Task Force was created to make recommendations to Navy leadership regarding policy, investment, and action, and to lead public discussion on this serious issue.

Environmental stewardship enables our Sailors to carry out their missions while minimizing impacts on the environment, both afloat and ashore. The Navy is committed to continuing a strong legacy of environmental stewardship, including efforts to assess and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions without compromising core mission capabilities.

Energy
The Navy energy program is focused on enhancing operational capability. Energy security means having an adequate, reliable, and sustainable energy supply - sufficient to meet the demands of the mission. The Navy aims to reduce energy demand and increase alternative and renewable supply.
