Neild Named Commissioner of the National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance (NCEE)
Ruth Curran Neild has been named Commissioner of the
National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance. As Commissioner, she will oversee NCEE, one of four centers in the Institute of Education Sciences Upon being named, IES Director John Q. Easton said, "Ruth has been a superb Associate Commissioner of Knowledge Utilization at NCEE and will bring her steady guidance and creative leadership to the Center."

NBES Announces New Members
The National Board for Education Sciences (NBES) gained four new members in June, and two more members will be sworn in at the October 5 Board meeting.

An NCES report documents the scope and nature of a number of differences between sex and racial/ethnic groups in education preparation and achievement, as well as differences in postsecondary access, persistence, and attainment between males and females within and across racial/ethnic.

Two New Special Education Research & Development Centers Underway
NCSER funded two $10 million R&D Center awards in July 2012: the Special Education Research and Development Center on Reading Instruction for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students, and the Center on Secondary Education for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
