Science at the Pacific Islands CSC

In This Section:

Climate Science Agenda
Research Direction
Science Implementation Panel
Stakeholder Advisory Council

Priority science activities of CSCs will include:

  • Use and creation of high-resolution climate models and derivative products to help forecast ecological and population responses at national, regional, and local scales
  • Integration of physical climate models with ecological, habitat, and population response models
  • Development of methods to assess vulnerability of species, habitats, and human communities
  • Development of standardized approaches to modeling, monitoring, data management and decision support

The research direction taken by the Pacific Islands CSC will be guided by a climate science agenda that will establish priorities and help ensure that the scientific program addresses priority management needs.  The first Pacific Islands CSC science agenda is scheduled to be completed in 2012. In developing this agenda, the CSC will receive advice and guidance from a Stakeholder Advisory Council (SAC). A Science Implementation Panel (SIP) will assist with independent scientific review of projects comprising the Pacific Islands CSC research program.

Regional Climate Change Challenges:
  • Coral reef health
  • Fish and wildlife response to climate change
  • Ecosystem restoration
  • Fish and wildlife response to climate change
  • Invasive species
  • Marine and coastal resilience
  • Protection of trust species
