NN/LM Membership Certificates are in the Mail

2011-2016 certificates are now on their way to all those who were NN/LM Network members prior to March 2012.  If you became a member after this cutoff date, your certificate will be processed in our yearly certificate mailing cycle.  However, if you wish to have your certificate sooner, please send an email to nnlmmar@pitt.edu. MAR Announces a New MARDelivery Service

MARDelivery is a free service for members of NN/LM, Middle Atlantic Region.  It enables libraries to send links to ILL articles they lend, rather than emailing large attachments.

MARDelivery can also be used to support local document delivery.  Patrons have access to articles delivered through MARDelivery for 14 days.

PubMed for Experts

MAR’s Outreach Coordinator, Kate Flewelling will be offering PubMed for Experts.

About the class:  This hands-on class will highlight advanced PubMed techniques that can be used to conduct comprehensive searches.  Recent changes to PubMed will be highlighted.  Attendees are encouraged to contribute past and present difficult searches to discuss with the class.  Participants will receive 3 hours of continuing education credit awarded by the Medical Library Association.  Registration is free and limited to 20 participants.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution or the completion of significant coursework towards the degree.
  • Advanced degree in basic sciences and/or significant biomedical background preferred but not required.
  • Experience with statistical software (SPSS, SAS, STATA), and with GIS software such as ArcGIS and ArcView preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of numeric data resources and an understanding of the application of numeric data in biomedical sciences. Knowledge and experience with metadata and cataloging standards and schema such as Dublin Core, METS, MODS, AACR2, RDA, MeSH, and NLM classification.

Salary
Negotiable starting $60K.

Job Ad: UMDNJ Information & Education Librarian

The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey is seeking an Information & Education Librarian for its George F. Smith Library of the Health Sciences, located in Newark, NJ.

The Information & Education Librarian is responsible for the provision of in-person and virtual reference, and education services, in support of the educational, research, clinical, and community service missions of the UMDNJ. This position participates in the implementation of library and informatics training programs for the Newark and Scotch Plains campuses, as well as for University-wide Moodle courses, and is part of a team of librarians who make up the Information and Education department at the Smith Library.  The Information & Education Librarian utilizes the Web and other media to provide quality services for the UMDNJ community, evaluating, developing, and teaching both informal instructional sessions and formal classes to groups and individuals in the use of scholarly databases, electronic indexes, and full-text resources.  This position reports to the Associate Director of the George F. Smith Library of the Health Sciences.

The Information & Education Librarian is scheduled to work Monday – Friday.

UMDNJ is a statewide network of academic health centers that includes eight schools on five campuses, enrolling more than 4,500 students. Our University is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the education of health professionals and scientists, the conduct of research, the delivery of health care, and service to the people of New Jersey.  The George F. Smith Library of the Health Sciences is the major health sciences library in the state of New Jersey.

Qualifications:  A successful applicant must possess demonstrated instructional development and teaching abilities, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.  A thorough knowledge of basic health sciences reference sources is a plus.

Education and/or Experience:  Master’s Degree in Library Science is required.  Educational and scholarly credentials to warrant faculty appointment in one or more UMDNJ schools are required.  Must be proficient in the use of technology-based library systems; for example, integrated library systems, Web-based educational support and development, document imaging for scholarly information transfer, and/or scholarly information resources and databases.

Salary Range:  $58,464.00-$87,690.00, based upon qualifications of applicant.

New NLM Mobile Resource

Resources for Those Impacted by the Colorado Shooting

In response to the recent tragedy in Colorado, the National Child Traumatic Network (NCTN) has developed resources to help families and communities.

The NCTSN also has resources on Childhood Traumatic Grief and Psychological First Aid (PFA).  PFA is an early intervention to support children, adolescents,
adults, and families impacted by these types of events.  Many of our materials have been translated into numerous languages, including Spanish.  An online
