Technical Discipline: Engine System Dynamics and Safety

Updated: 12:32 am ET August 3, 2007

Engine System Dynamics encompasses a broad range of specialized engine mechanical activity including rotating machinery dynamics analysis, testing, and failure investigations to address issues associated with rotor stability, transient dynamics, forced response, and rotor integrity.

Engine System Dynamics applications span engine certification through field service problem investigation and resolution, which often require close collaboration with other CSTA specialists.

Current research and development activities focus on development of design tools for rotor burst containment and shielding; feasibility investigation of economically viable reliable engine health monitoring techniques; and validation of nonlinear design/analysis tools to enhance engine certification.
