Energy costs account for about 5% of the value of shipments for metal castings. Energy expenditures for the entire industry in 1998 were about $1.6 billion, about 2% of all energy expenditures in the manufacturing sector. Iron foundries accounted for $790 million of this total. [MECS 1998]
