Welcome to the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge Complex. The refuge is one of 555 units in the National Wildlife Refuge System, which is part of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.

At the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge, we conserve the biological diversity of the Wallkill Valley by protecting and managing land, with a special emphasis on forest-dwelling and grassland birds, migrating waterfowl, wintering raptors, and endangered species, while providing opportunities for scientific research and compatible public use.

The mission of the National Wildlife Refuge System is:
To administer a national network of lands and waters for the conservation, management, and where appropriate, restoration of the fish, wildlife, and plant resources and their habitats within the United States for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans.
