CDC/ATSDR honors the sovereignty of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) governments, respects the inherent rights of self governance, commits to work on a government-to-government basis, and upholds the federal trust responsibility. The Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC) provides a forum for meetings between CDC leadership and elected or appointed Tribal leaders (or their designated employees with authority to act on their behalf); as well as representatives of national Tribal organizations designated by Tribal leaders to act on their behalf, in compliance with the exemptions with the Federal Advisory Committee Act.
The meetings will facilitate the exchange of views, information, or advice concerning the intergovernmental responsibilities in the implementation and/or administration of CDC programs, including those that arise explicitly or implicitly under statute, regulation or Executive Order. Such meetings include, but are not limited to seeking consensus; exchanging views, information, advice, and/or recommendations; and facilitating any other interaction relating to intergovernmental responsibilities or administration. Meetings may be face-to-face or via conference call. TAC meetings will complement and not supplant the Tribal consultation process between CDC and the Tribes.
