Great American Smokeout

November is Great American Smokeout month. The third Thursday of the month of November (every year) is the day in which friends help friends quit smoking. Sponsored by organizations which encourage reduction of the number one cause of preventable early death, Great American Smokeout events are held nationwide.

  • The goal: encourage smokers to give up their tobacco use for one day and make a plan to quit.
  • The hope: this day to be the starting point for many smokers to become non-smokers, reducing their chances and their families’ chances of developing lung disease, cancer and other tobacco-related illnesses.

If you are a smoker, plan to quit. If you know and care about a smoker, help him or her develop a plan to quit. Any method that works for you or your friend is acceptable; the important thing is that you quit and begin enjoying a smoke-free and healthy life style.

CSC HOHS provides tobacco cessation materials, instruction and support classes for Hanford workers. Please drop by the clinic during Smokeout week for information; you can also sign up for help in quitting. Call (509) 376-3939 for more information. This could be the most important decision you will ever make to improve your and your children’s health, well-being and longevity.
