On behalf of the Government of the United States and the American people, I extend my warmest congratulations to the people of Peru as you celebrate your 188th anniversary of independence. The United States and Peru have worked together on many issues of mutual importance, including enhancing citizen safety and ensuring the benefits of trade are shared broadly within our societies.

For the thousands of Peruvian immigrants who now make their homes in the United States, July 28 will be a time to reconnect with family and friends in Peru and honor Peru’s distinguished history. Today, we join all Peruvians in celebrating our shared democratic traditions.
