SOAP Web Services
The Transport Layer Expert Panel, in support of their recommendation of SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) as the standard for immunization data exchange, have developed resources to support software interface engineers and technical project managers with implementations of SOAP as a common web service interface. The panel collected and documented case studies, lessons learned, SOAP tools and implementation efforts from a variety of vendors and IIS programs with experience implementing SOAP. Through the consensus-based process, the expert panel also defined a Web Service Definition Language (WSDL) and authentication methodology, available below. Coding samples for the WSDL will also be published in both Java and .Net.

- Standard Interface: Web Services Definition Language (WSDL)
- Security
- Sender and Receiver Effort
- Formal Specification [383 KB, 10 pages] Describes transport, security, and SOAP operations, parameters, and faults for SOAP-based HL7 transmissions to an IIS.
These resources will continue to be updated as the IIS community adopts and implements SOAP. Please continue to check back for updates and fresh content. Contact IISSBprojects@cdc.gov.
