Federal Water Working Group

The Federal Water Working Group was formed by the Interagency Energy Management Task Force (IATF) to help Federal agencies meet Federal water reduction requirements.

Executive Order (E.O.) 13423 requires Federal agencies to reduce water consumption intensity 2% annually through fiscal year 2015, or 16% by fiscal year 2015, compared to a fiscal year 2007 baseline. In response, the Water Working Group helped the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) develop and release Establishing Baseline and Meeting Water Conservation Goals of Executive Order 13423PDF.

E.O. 13514 expands the E.O. 13423 water reduction goal by requiring agencies to reduce water consumption intensity by 2% through 2020 based on the fiscal year 2007 baseline. E.O. 13514 also requires Federal agencies to reduce industrial, landscaping, and agricultural water consumption by 2% annually, or 20% by the end of fiscal year 2020, relative to a fiscal year 2010 baseline. The Water Working Group is presently working with DOE to help develop guidance on the water-related goals of this new executive order.

The Federal Water Working Group continues to operate under the IATF, providing a forum for Federal agency information exchange and project facilitation surrounding Federal water goals and requirements. A draft of the working group charterPDF is available.

Federal Water Working Group membership is open to all Federal agencies currently involved with the IATF. FEMP provides chairmanship and support for the group.
