Industrial Facilities

FEMP's Industrial Facilities Initiative (IFI) helps Federal agencies improve facility energy efficiency. As defined by the program, a facility or process is deemed "industrial" if it houses high-intensity processes or mission-critical applications that are not the traditional creature comforts of the building (e.g., heating, cooling, lighting, domestic hot water, etc.).

In addition to improving energy efficiency, IFI helps Federal industrial facilities meet regulatory requirements. This includes Executive Order 13423, which requires Federal facilities, laboratories, and industrial buildings to reduce energy consumption 30% by 2015 compared to a 2003 baseline.

IFI partners with the Department of Energy (DOE) Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) to offer expert advice, support, and resources to Federal industrial facility managers. These resources include:

• Assessments: Comprehensive plant-wide and system-specific assessments to optimize energy efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity for Federal industrial facilities.

• Resources: Information resources spanning technical publications, software tools, database resources, training opportunities, and related links.

Federal versus Private Industry Facilities

FEMP's IFI focuses on industrial facilities within the Federal Government sector. Questions from private industry should be directed to the DOE Advanced Manufacturing Office.
