Week 3 football lookback: What we learned Friday

A very creditable job by the Robert D. Edgren Eagles. Johnell Alexander's speed kept the Eagles within a point early in the third quarter at 7-6. Then, Yokota does what it always does, find a way to win when the chips are down. That 58-yard touchdown pass from DeEric Harvin to Andy Silva goes over his head or out of bounds, it's a different game. A break here and there. The chips fell Yokota's way. Let's see what happens in the rematch Oct. 24 at the Eagles' Nest. That's a big, physical and quick Edgren team that proved it can stay with the champs for at least three quarters.

Memo to all Kanto Plain Association of Secondary Schools coaches: Do not throw in Seaun Eddy's direction. He and the American School In Japan Mustangs will make you pay. Try four picks in the first half against Nile C. Kinnick. Ornauer almost had the score right; thing is, Air ASIJ with its A-11 attack did the winning. Plenty to be joyful about in Mustang Valley.

Tyree Hunt and Nile C. Kinnick = Best 0-3 team in the Pacific. A little polish on the tackling and playing four full quarters and who knows where the Red Devils might be?

Though Seoul American has won its two games by a combined 47-0, their two victories, like Yokota's over Edgren tonight, have been a lot closer than the scoreboard tells. But Johnnie Hickson is proving just as adept at receiver as he is on the hardwood. Joe McLean continues to beast. And if Brent Spencer stays around for awhile, he may have a chance to be the best QB Seoul American has ever had (not counting the Youth Activities days when such names as Aaron Collins and David Page graced the fields).

Welcome back, Will Rapoza!

Simon Sanchez is for real. 'Nuff said.

Off to Misawa for the USFL-AFL title game.
