United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
USAID began with the reconstruction of Europe after World War II in 1961 when the Foreign Assistance Act was signed. Since then, the government organization extends U.S. foreign assistance to recuperating countries who have been involved in natural disasters, are poverty stricken, or employing new democratic reforms.
USAID is a federal organization answering to the Secretary of State and its’ projects are located in the following five regions: Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Eurasia, and The Middle East.
USAID denotes the following categories for its areas of work: agriculture, democracy governance, economic growth, the environment, education, health, global partnerships, and humanitarian assistance. They also have partnerships with volunteer organizations, universities, U.S. businesses, international agencies, foreign governments, and other U.S. government agencies.
