U.S. Global Health Initiative Principles
The Global Health Initiative (GHI) is the next chapter in the way U.S. Government agencies conduct global health activities, building on successful bipartisan leadership in global health and expanding their impact for sustainable results around the world. To achieve these goals, GHI is saving lives, promoting, security and maximizing results. The principles underlying the foundation of GHI are the following:
- Focus on women, girls, and gender equality
- Encourage country ownership and invest in country-led plans
- Build sustainability through health systems strengthening
- Strengthen and leverage key organizations and partnerships with humanitarian and faith-based groups and the private sector
- Increase impact through strategic coordination and integration
- Improve metrics, monitoring and evaluation
- Promote research and innovation
