International Experience and Technical Assistance (IETA) Program

Are you looking for an outstanding opportunity to gain experience in international public health work?  Then, the International Experience and Technical Assistance (IETA) training program may be for you!

Application season is now officially open and you can find out more about our upcoming information sessions below.

The International Experience and Technical Assistance (IETA) program is a developmental training program for Federal public health employees offered by the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. Specifically, IETA is a professional development/technical assistance program that takes place over a 12-month period. It consists of attendance at three (3) workshops in Atlanta, Georgia (3-4 days each) and a supervised short-term (12-week minimum) overseas assignment with an international public health program. All cohort participants serve overseas between May and November in one of the 50-plus countries where CDC has an overseas presence.

2012 Cohort 14 Currently, IETA Cohort 14's twenty-two participants represent CDC, the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Office of the Secretary (OS). They are serving in Cambodia, Haiti, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Thailand, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. They are working with the CGH/Overseas Operations Office, the Division of Global HIV/AIDS (DGHA), the Division of Global Disease Detection and Emergency Response (DGDDER), and the Division of Global Migration & Quarantine (DGMQ).

To find out more about the program, please review the information provided under the sidebars to the left:

If there are any questions about the program, you are welcome to send an e-mail to ieta@cdc.gov or contact the Program Coordinator at 404.718.8874.

Applications are now being accepted!

IETA is now officially recruiting for its 2013 Cohort 15 and is searching for up to 25 participants: 20 CDC employees, and 5 employees from other HHS component agencies. Information sessions are being held at all CDC campuses and you also have the opportunity to participate remotely. These sessions provide you the opportunity to meet the Program Coordinator, learn about the IETA program, hear from a graduate of the program, and – most importantly – ask questions.
