The United States is pleased to announce that it has formally nominated William Lacy Swing for a second five-year term as Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Director General Swing has a clear record of accomplishment. He has solved problems and created new solutions that have improved the lives of so many – even under the most challenging environments. Under his leadership, IOM has strengthened its capacity to respond quickly and efficiently to a wide range of humanitarian crises, from the 2010 earthquake in Haiti to the 2011 migration emergency resulting from the internal political conflict in Libya. Director General Swing has also implemented a broad set of internal reforms to the organization that will make it even stronger and more effective in coming years.

The United States has been a strong supporter of Director General Swing’s priorities and we believe, under his continued leadership, that IOM will remain and prosper as the premier international organization for migration.
