6/27/2012 - U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AFNS) -- Approximately 1,000 Air Force Academy cadet appointees are expected to arrive in the area for in-processing, which is scheduled for June 28.
Air Force Academy officials assured the public that there is a plan in place to take care of all cadets, to include appointees.
At this time, the cadet in-processing schedule remains the same; however, the reporting location has changed to the Cadet Field House instead of Doolittle Hall. Appointees should report at their previously scheduled report time. All appointees should enter the Academy through the North Gate to access the Cadet Field House.
Bed and breakfast host families, who plan to meet their appointees on the Academy grounds, are asked to meet their appointees at the Cadet Field House instead of Doolittle Hall at the originally scheduled time. In addition, cadet appointees arriving at the airport whose bed and breakfast families have been impacted by the evacuation will receive instructions at the airport from Association of Graduate members, who will be identified as such.
Any changes or updates on in-processing and cadet appointee reporting instructions will be posted on the U.S. Air Force Academy website, www.usafa.af.mil. Click on the "Waldo Canyon Fire" tab.

6/28/2012 7:08:55 PM ET It's a tough call to make. The 12 week basic training runs right to the start of classes. I pray the rains will come and end this nightmare.

6/28/2012 3:14:22 PM ET Jerry- This is a good call for several reasons. First, the cadet area has not been evacuated. Second, the cadet area is very safe from the fire given the location vegetation and building materials. Third, these new cadets are far safer being inprocessed in belonging to the AF than they are just sitting in Colorado Springs with no support structure available to them.

6/28/2012 12:32:25 PM ET At first glance Jerry your estimation is correct. However, since only a portion of the permanent party housing has been evacuated, not the entire Academy, the show must and should go on. A great first exposure to the military for these young men and women--there will be many situations in their career where they will face people on their way out of the 'fire' as they are on their way in. Press On Regardless...

6/27/2012 4:52:39 PM ET A stupid and dangerous move just to keep to a schedule. The academy has now been evacuated and the Air Force has to find a place to put these people.
